Supporting the Etsy strike

Many Etsy sellers are planning to go on strike April 11th. They’re putting their shops in vacation mode (so products won’t be available for purchase) and asking customers to boycott Etsy. The strike is to protest Etsy fee increases and other policies pertaining to sellers. You can read details on The Verge and find more info at etsystrike.org.

My Etsy shop is simply a hobby and I don’t rely on sales for financial support, but I can see how Etsy’s policies have been hurting people whose full-time job is their shop.

I’d rather support those small businesses than a corporation that raises fees after two years of record profits.

From April 11th to April 18th, my Etsy shop will be on vacation mode. I’m not going anywhere, but I do hope Etsy realizes it needs to reconsider its relationship with sellers.

If you’d like to purchase any of my zines before April 11th, you can do that on Etsy. And I’m always up for trading zines. Simply message me here or on Instagram.

Newsletter on Substack

One thing I love about the internet is connecting with people all over the world. But as everyone knows, there is SO MUCH online. A lot of noise. And it can be difficult to filter through that noise when you want to reach people who share your hobbies and interests.

Add social media algorithms that determine what you see and when, and connecting becomes even more difficult.

I want a direct connection, and newsletters are the way to do that. So I’m starting one on Substack.

Mythical Type newsletter

Every month I’ll send an update about my zines and creative projects I’m working on. I like sharing interesting things I find through other people, so some of that will go into the newsletter, too. I’ll end with a question or prompt…something we can talk about in the comments.

If you’re interested in my work, I hope you’ll subscribe. (It’s free.)

Anniversary sale on Etsy

I’ve been selling zines on Etsy for one year! 🥳 To celebrate, everything in my shop is 20% off through August 31!

A year ago when I started listing my zines on Etsy, I wanted an easy way for people to get paper copies of them. It’s not a side hustle (I dislike that term) and definitely not a part-time or full-time job.

I’d be making zines and sharing them online regardless of sales, but it’s super cool that people like them enough to buy them. 🙏
